The mortal remains of a former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan has left Geneva, Switzerland to Accra OWASSFMONLINE.com can report.
The body of the former diplomat is being accompanied by his wife, children and some UN officials.
Annan will be accorded a state burial and his body interred at the new Military Cemetery in Accra on September 13, 2018 after burial service at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Wednesday, September 12.
Mr Annan was 80 years old and is survived by 3 children, Ama, Kojo, and Nina.
Kofi Annan was a global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world. During his distinguished career and leadership of the United Nations, he was an ardent champion of peace, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law.
Arrival of Mr Annan’s remains at the Accra International Airport at 4pm.
The remains will be accompanied by his widow, children and some UN officials.
The remains will be received with a brief ceremony led by the Ghana Armed Forces and the President of the Republic.
The remains will be moved to the Accra International Conference Centre from the Airport

Services commences at 9am at Accra International Conference Center.
Service will be attended by UN Official,Head of state, Diplomatic delegations and the general public. There will be a private burial at midday at the Military Cemetery with full military honors and a 17 gun salute.
