Outspoken Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Honourable Kennedy Agyapong has said if the Akufo-Addo government doesn’t take a second look at exorbitant charges at the port, the government will go to opposition easily.
He expressed shock about a charge of 25,000 dollars (125,000 cedis) for a set of air conditioners.
“I have someone working on a project for me at the port. I have imported some air conditioners. I was showed an invoice of USD 22,000 for all the air conditioners but I was shocked I have to pay an amount of USD 25,000 in port duties.” he said on top of his voice, in absolute disbelief.
“I was like really? What is going on [in Ghana]? You charge so much on common air-condition. I am very upset and still can’t understand why I have to pay that much. The government should immediately do something about this,” he screamed.
His lamentation is in line with the demands of the concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association who have asked the government to take action on ‘killer port charges’.
